The 18th Annual General Meeting and Annual Award Ceremony of Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) was held on 25th March 2011, at the Auditorium of Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI), Colombo. The Chief Guest was H.E. Ashok K. Kantha, the High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka.
The Chief Guest, Chairman and the Board of Directors of PHDT were occupied the head table. Approximately two hundred distinguish guests participated including representatives from Government Ministries, RPCs, GOs, NGOs, students who were selected to Universities and Award Winners.
According to the Agenda of the 18th Annual General Meeting, the Chairman’s address and Report of the Board of Directors on the affairs of the company were presented. Three Board Directors were re-elected and Auditors were re-appointed for the next year. The Annual report of the PHDT, for the year 2010 which was published was made available for the members.
A Tele Documentary was telecasted on the achievements & the progress of Trust activities, which included the development of housing, sanitation, child care, health care, EWHCS, community mobilization, infrastructure, Information Technology, etc., and students gaining entrance to Universities from the Estate Sector.
The leader of evaluation team, Ms. Shirani Adhihetty, and a team member, Ms. Nanditha Hettitantri, expressed their opinions on the performance of PHDT Regional offices and its activities. The Best Estate Manager, Mr. G. Ratnayake, described the immense services and benefits gained from the PHDT, in his speech.
The Chairman, Mr. Harry Sandrasekera mentioned the present activities, which are provided to the plantation workers by the PHDT, and the key objectives of the PHDT, which helps the continuous enhancement of the quality of their life.
An enlightening speech was made by the Chief guest, H.E. Ashok K. Kantha, appreciating the PHDT, for the substantial assistances contributed towards the welfare of plantation workers and the efforts taken for the continuous enhancement of the quality of life of plantation community. In particular, he assured the support of the government of India in education, Housing, Health care and transportation for the estate sector.
At this occasion, about 60 winners from the Plantations were awarded medals and gifts appreciating their valuable services for the estate sector. The Winner of the PHDT inter Regional competition was Galle Region.
